Not only is it tough to find somewhere suitable to live, but landlords don’t always welcome a nine-month lease to align with the university’s academic calendar. She thinks the most reliable listing is a Google spreadsheet made by Berkeley students. Every year she scours websites, including Craigslist and other Berkeley housing pages, all of which are riddled with scams. However, finding this place did not come easy. “My senior year, I was in a one-bedroom apartment with four gals total, two in the bedroom and two in the living room.” The cost for each person was $800 a month.Ĭurrently, Jones is living in a room by herself, but the building offers a communal kitchen and bathroom. “Ever since the guaranteed housing my first year as an undergrad, housing has been a struggle,” Jones said. “Like it’s been this way for a long time.” “I feel like overcrowding doesn’t just happen out of nowhere,” she said. She, like many others, wishes for solutions to the housing shortage. First-year students are guaranteed housing in a dorm. There is no Monitor Connection window showing a graph of the bluetooth signal that was available in Mountain Lion, but at least you can still monitor the RSSI. The good news is that as long as you know where to look, you can still access most of these options. Mavericks has simplified Bluetooth Preferences along with other GUI settings that Apple prefer end users not to play with. Thanks TJ! So, to monitor and troubleshoot Bluetooth connections in Mavericks, here’s how! This is an updated version of that blog for Mavericks as TJ Luoma kindly commented on my blog to inform me that these features have changed in Mavericks (OS X 10.9), prompting me to update my blog. Back in February last year, I blogged about ‘ Troubleshooting Bluetooth devices and their connection strength in Mountain Lion‘. Jesse (Andrew Jacobs) and Hector (Jorge Diaz) are best pals who have just graduated from high school but who haven't given a single thought to the future. While it's a drag that studios - in this case, Paramount - think about putting anyone other than affluent white suburbanites onscreen only when there are dollars to be made, the first half of The Marked Ones is lively enough, and funny enough, to work on its own merits. Actually, The Marked Ones has been conceived more as a spinoff of the series rather than a bona fide entry it's aimed largely at Latino moviegoers, who apparently make up a large portion of the Paranormal Activity fan base. This is the latest installment in the franchise that nobody claims to care about anymore but still somehow causes dollars to flow almost paranormally out of moviegoers' pockets. They're equal-opportunity squatters, squeezing themselves into even the smallest space.īut if The Marked Ones is mildly brilliant in the first half, it stumbles witlessly into its own dumb pentagram in the second. In this setting, one in which people literally live on top of one another and not a winding driveway's worth of real estate away, there really is something insidious about the presence of demons. Rosemary's Baby notwithstanding, it's usually only white suburban people who fall prey to movie ghosts and demons - they're always the ones opening doors to rooms that shouldn't be entered, stepping witlessly into pentagrams painted on the floor in goat's blood, and wondering aloud, "You think this is some sort of devil-worship thing?" That's why it was a stroke of genius to set Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones in Oxnard, California, in a semi-urban Latino neighborhood, a place where multiple generations of family often live under the same roof, where your neighbors are so close, you can hear them through the vents in your bedroom. 7/14/2023 0 Comments Youtube garmin basecampI’ll link to all the posts below when they come out. It’s here in UFC 4, and I’m glad to have it.Ĭhasing joint submissions, with their entirely separate mini-game, is a different story. As a gamer who has earned his Brazilian jiu-jitsu blue belt, I’ve been waiting for a grappling system I actually enjoyed playing. The featherweight division knew to be wary of my array of unorthodox windshield chokes and Peruvian neck ties. The fact that the choke submission game converted my Career fighter from a kickboxer to a submission ace should speak volumes about how much I embraced it. The choke mechanic utilizes the left stick to smoothly move the colored bars around a ring-shaped overlay. The finesse element also makes sense to anyone who has grappled before (this guy right here). It’s a much easier system to explain to someone than the old mini-game, which should never be spoken of again. Finesse is key, so button mashers who go crazy on the inputs won’t last very long. The attacker aims to overlap the bars long enough to secure a tapout, while the defender must evade long enough to escape. Both mini-games pit players in cat-and-mouse chases using colored bars. In its stead, two new mini-games were added to the mix in UFC 4, one each for choke and joint submissions. The fact that it was scrapped entirely by the developers for UFC 4 says everything you need to know about its popularity. The submission system from the first three titles, released between 20, was far too obtuse. No way would I have taken the grappler’s path in any previous EA Sports UFC game. Ogle got so good at them, and I enjoyed chasing submissions so much, that by the time he had earned his legacy as the Greatest of All Time, the ex-kickboxer had secured way more subs than KOs and TKOs. He drilled armbars, kimuras, and d’Arce chokes, steadily leveling them up to become more effective. He stormed through the amateur scene and first few professional fights in the UFC, tenderizing opponents’ thighs with a brutal array of leg kicks, lead leg side kicks, and nasty oblique kicks.īut along the way, behind the scenes, Ogle spent much of his training camps working on grappling. Here’s a brief summation of my Career mode experience in EA Sports UFC 4 over the past week: My fictional fighter, Cullogan Ogle, began his career with a kickboxing background. The exploration is satisfying enough that it always feels like you’re making progress and moving forward, even at a casual pace. LivingWriter was made because there was a need for a perfect application for writers that combines all the best features with the greatest user experience.Writers of long-form content, like novels and screenplays, have unique needs that need to be addressed in the software they use. This makes LivingWriter the safest choice for writers. Unlike Storyist, LivingWriter is web-based, and anyone with an internet connection can collaborate with you on your book in real-time without paying to download the application. LivingWriter has the best co-authoring and collaboration of any book writing software on the market.Īs opposed to Storyist which leaves gaps in your saved work, LivingWriter saves your work every keystroke, and revision history saves every ten minutes. Just plug in your ideas and LivingWriter will do the rest. All you need to do is pick any one of the time-tested templates like Story Circle, 27 Chapter Method, Seven Point Story, and Three Act Structure, and LivingWriter will walk you through how to use it. That means no extra features that get in your way.įor example, LivingWriter’s plot templates are the easiest to use. Especially because LivingWriter is designed to ease the work of writers specifically working on novels and non-fiction. However, LivingWriter’s layout of chapters, subchapter, story elements, and notes provides a much simpler user experience than Storyist. Both LivingWriter and Storyist have common features like auto-suggest, corkboard, character images, dark mode, writing goals, and templates. LivingWriter has a cleaner interface, resembling updated programs like Google Docs. Any writer knows that a few minutes to an hour worth of lost work could mean the loss of an idea that will never return! Why LivingWriter Is Better This extremely limits your capacity to work with an editor which is an essential aspect of publishing your work.Īnother concern we found with our Storyist review is that it autosaves every few minutes, and revision history saves every hour. This also means that if you want someone to edit your work, you cannot collaborate with them on Storyist. This makes it a no-go for non-Mac users, or if you ever plan to edit your work on a computer that is not a Mac. Storyist is also only available for macOS and iOS, and it must be downloaded. Additionally, if you are writing a screenplay then you would want software like FinalDraft which is specifically geared towards screenplay writing. These features are cumbersome to authors who don’t need them. However, writing a screenplay requires very specific features that are not needed for those writing books or articles. One of the biggest issues with Storyist is that they tried to capture the market of both book and screenplay writing. Storyist looks a bit more updated than programs like Scrivener and FinalDraft which have very old interfaces, however, they are still missing the mark when it comes to user interface and experience. Any Storyist review will tell you that it still resembles Microsoft Word circa 2005. 7/13/2023 0 Comments On off selfieOpt for an angled mirror and shoot your photo at waist height. If you don’t have time to play around, try this classic. Experiment for a while and you will get at least one good shot. Not everyone has an eye for details either, so a carousel of photos will help zero in on different aspects of your look/life in each frame. In this case more than one mirror selfie may be in order. You've also been working hard at the gym, and now you’re hanging at one of the coolest new spots in town. Your hair is a vibe, your outfit is accessorized like a pro, and you're just feeling yourself. Still, it’s a good option for showing off everything but your face. Position it front and center and commenters may question if it’s really you. Have a massive zit you’d like to hide? Feeling yourself in hermit mode? With this variation you completely hide your face with your phone. You’ll probably inadvertently do this anyway so it should be an easy variation to master. It’s a little mysterious, though with one eye peeking out from behind your phone, it says, hey, I'm not catfishing you. This one is all about your outfit and your body. Once you've got this down, you are ready to experiment with posing. Rather, face it for a more diffused effect. Direct light will be too bright, so avoid standing in front of your light source. Remember that natural, daytime light works best. But it kind of goes against the impromptu and candid nature of a mirror selfie. Gross.Īs for lighting, you always have the option of using professional lights, and if you are an influencer or aspiring influencer, that may be your jam. So, unless you are going for an ultra-candid, moody feel, get out the Windex and wipe the toothpaste off your mirror. If you're going for a thirst trap vibe, a messy bed may be the right move, but in general, a clean and minimalist background is most pleasing to the eye. Whether or not you should tidy up the room behind you before taking a mirror selfie is actually debateable. And that's okay, fam - we got you.īefore we get into some of the popular mirror selfie methods, keep these basics in mind. Though while they do have a candid feel, let's face it, most are actually staged. In the glossy, homogenized world of social media, the mirror selfie feels more intimate and real. Yes, the mirror selfie saves the day and we especially like it when influencers take them because it gives us a window into their private sanctuaries. Or maybe the lighting sucks and you look. Say you're looking especially snatched in a killer outfit but hardly anyone is around to witness it. It can also solve a variety of different problems. It's an easy shot with a million different approaches, and lots of flexibility when it comes to poses. Today, the mirror selfie continues to be a popular way to get an aesthetically pleasing photo that shows off our best features. Who knows how long the mirror selfie has actually been around? Peruse some vintage Instagram accounts and you can find interesting takes all the way back to the 1950s, though the trend was popularized on a mass scale in the early 2000s - well before Instagram and front-facing smartphone cameras existed. 7/13/2023 0 Comments Dozer rental priceMoving big machinery as this one comes with a cost.
